Gubernator`s park

This is a small but neat park right behind the Icheri Sheher metro station or the Philharmonic. In the older days, when we were ruled by the Russian Tzar, this park was called The Governor's Garden - Gubernator Baghi, then in the Soviet period it was renamed after Pioneers (hmmm I wonder!)... and hopefully its current name will last for a long time. It is now named after Aliaga Vahid, famous Azeri poet. You can even see his bust if you walk from the big fountain towards Azneft. There's a nice chaykhana (teahouse) in the park and is a great escape in the heat of the summer. What I love most about this place is that it seems like the whole park is protected by the walls of the Old City. For those who have read "Ali and Nino" by Kurban Said, let me tell you that this is where Ali would meet his sweetheart Nino...

Directions: Go behind the Icheri Sheher metro station and enter the park from the stairwells or walk up to it from the circle of SOCAR (State Oil Company of Azerbaijan).
